Piguet Genève Suisse presents its new limited edition pens. Each of these valuable fountain pens is a piece of art, masterfully crafted with the use of the Japanese traditional art: Tsugaru-Nuri with contemporary techniques. The number of pens is strictly limited.
Tsugaru Nuri is the traditional lacquerware of the Tsugaru region in Aomori prefecture, centralized in the city of Hirosaki. Lacquerware crafts in Tsugaru date back to the Edo period (1603-1868), comprising extensive customs.
Piguet discovers the true charm of “Tsugaru-Nuri” and collaborates with a renowned craftsman from Japan of this art: Mrs. Hiroko Makino and celebrates its 62th year in the pen industry with its new limited edition pens. The master craftsman tries to change the obsolete image of Tsugaru-Nuri by using lacquer in her own unique way.
Only one Piguet “Northern Light” limited edition pen is intended to be manufactured with14k gold nib made in Germany. The pen, whose resin body was decorated by Hiroko Makino by applying special lacquer with the Tsugaru Nuri technique in Japan, also bears the seal of the great master.
The Piguet Northern Light limited edition fountain pen is a hand-crafted, unique piece of art – built for eternity. The properties of the applied lacquers are unique. Despite its solid consistency, the hardened lacquer maintains most of its elasticity, which makes it durably resistant to cracking. This way, Piguet retains the richness of its details for many years to come.
